We all know that climate change is getting worse, along with ecological destruction and species extinction, but how often do we talk about it?
Not very often. For many people it's really hard, in fact one of the hardest things. It's big, it's scary, it's happening and we'd all rather it wasn't. We’ve all being operating under the tacit assumption that life would continue and yet the scientists are telling us that it might not, and that this is a pivotal decade for all of life on earth.
All the while our kids are telling us to DO something, and accusing us of not caring - but often we don't really know what anyone can do, given the scale of the problems. And so despite it being in the news more often (some would say "too often") we're still not talking about what is already happening in our our wold or preparing ourselves for the even bigger changes that scientists say are coming.
Yet research shows that when we learn how to talk, we actually feel BETTER rather than worse. We begin to realize that we're not alone in feeling this way, that we do care very deeply indeed, and that we can make a difference. And that asking, “whataboutChina?” isn’t helpful at all!
In this 90 minute workshop, Linda will share some important psychology around climate change, and invite you to explore in breakouts some simple ideas and frameworks to make climate conversations - and action - easier.
Why climate change (and everything else that is part of it) is often so hard to talk about.
Why talking actually helps people to feel better, more hopeful and more empowered.
Why being positive doesn't mean denying it's happening, it's recognizing it IS and taking conscious steps to make a positive impact.
How to talk about it without putting people's backs up, or without needing to be a climate scientist, and how important it is to listen so people feel safe to talk to you.
